Last week was a busy week at the upstairs gallery with Sketchbook, Felt Making and Decorative Felt Jewellery workshops with Connie Flynn. Lots of fun was had developing new skills. Connie is exhibiting new work in her exhibition titled Apron Strings! There are workshops and a gallery talk relating to the work shown. Well worth a visit !

to the traditional apron, blending quality craftsmanship with tales of social and cultural history

The exhibition will consist of new work, together with some work previously exhibited -
1. New work - Cloth Connotations, a collection of half apron which also could be viewed as textile wall hangings, this is Connie's (hons) year body of work.
2. New work - Shetland Lighthouse Residency work, in June 2015 Connie was the Artist in Residence which meant she stayed in a lighthouse. During the residency she researched the lighthouse keepers and families that lived and worked at the lighthouse. The fascinating tales were collected and recorded in textiles. This is her current work in progress but The Keeper's Apron will be in the exhibition.
3. Threads of Time II project
For this project Connie made an Archivist's Apron, the process is recorded in a blog http://www.hertsmemories.org.uk/page/threads_of_time_2
4. Old Wives Tales installation
For those of you that haven t seen her third year degree show installation which was in her SHETLAND exhibition at the Upstairs Gallery in January 2015, it will be part of the exhibition, a collection of aprons and tools relating to Shetland's textile history.
